Villa in Paros

The strong Mediterranean sun beats down, year round, on the Cyclades. With its feet planted in the Aegean Sea, the archipelago deploys its islands off mainland Greece. Between the refreshment of the Mediterranean waters and the heat of southern Europe, Paros contemplates the horizon.

On this island, olive trees, fragrant grasses and bougainvilleas flourish up to the hilltops. Here, at the end of a path exuding sweet scents near a tennis court, Villa gazes at the sea, in the middle of a 800 sq.m park. The house’s white walls and rooftop terraces – so typical of the Greek isles – are reflected in its 18-metre swimming pool that serves as a mirror fit for the gods of Olympus who have deserted the premises. The villa’s vast main terrace looks out at Paros’ landscapes: hills and fields, beaches and neighbouring islands… Whether guests are settled on one of the sundecks or under the pergola enjoying the outdoor lounge and dining area with a barbecue and wood oven, nature and sea breezes will join in on conversations.

The threshold does not mark the boundary for Villa’s splendid whiteness: inside the 450m2 residence, the enormous living area combines a lounge with a fireplace and a dining room decked out in white. The furniture’s contemporary lines are a marvellous match for the floors in renowned Paros marble; only the study-library corner offers a contrast, with its shelves of books and its sober black worktable. The peaceful studious atmosphere on the ground floor gives way, on the basement floor, to entertainment with a games and sports room combining table-tennis and fitness equipment. Meanwhile, the kitchen stands between the dining room and the terrace: fully equipped, this pistachio green room is brightened by wide French windows. Indeed, French windows recur throughout the ground floor that consequently basks in natural light thanks to multiple points for accessing the outdoors.

The same goes for the master bedroom and its spacious bathroom on the ground floor. Upstairs, another master bedroom comes with its own terrace and pergola. On the same floor, two double bedrooms with bathrooms have wide windows opening out to the horizon. And then, the annex offers a fifth and last bedroom, 50m2 with its own kitchenette and access to the pool, ideal for an intimate stay.

If the historian Herodotus had been our contemporary, would he have listed this villa as one of the Cycladic marvels coveted by King Minos?
