Last year, Athens first overcame the barrier of 6 million foreign visitors, which confirmed its status as a European advanced destination.
With a positive seven-year increase in overseas traffic, Athens has consistently welcomed new boutique hotels as well as four- and five-star hotels, while industry professionals – both domestic and international – are trying to capitalize on the country’s ever-growing tourism records.
In 2019 alone, about 40 new, small and large hotel units were added in Attica, and in the new year, which began a few days ago, new hotel units will have to change the hotel map of the capital.
The beginner of the coming year is the new five-star Athens Capital Hotel – Mgallery, the Lampsatu Lascarides Group (Megali Vtania, King George, Sheraton Rhodes Resort and others), located on Syntagma Square, and will begin operations in the first week of April, under the management of a large French hotel chain Accor. Investments totaling 22 million euros will add to Athens a new five-star hotel with 158 rooms and 19 suites, an elegant restaurant on the 9th floor and halls for corporate meetings and events.

The radically restored historic hotel Acropol at Omonia Square (1 Piraeus Street) from the international hotel chain Brown Hotels will soon reopen. Through the hotel, renamed Brown Acropol, its Israeli managers strive to transform the historic Omonia district into a domestic and global tourist market. The four-star Brown Acropol boasts 165 rooms and suites, conference rooms for up to 450 people and a rooftop bar-restaurant with unique panoramic views.
