Villa in Paros

The crisp contours and natural stone walls of Villa blend seamlessly into the surrounding rocks and wildflowers. That same sense of harmony with nature is found inside the house, with its minimalist “driftwood” kitchen, its sky blue window frames and its lavender linen sheets. Sandy-coloured sofas are arranged around the grand stone fireplace, with coffee tables sculpted from tree trunks. In the bedrooms, the seaside décor (complete with fishing net lampshades) is livened up with a few bohemian touches: a riot of pastel colours, handcrafted lampshades and ethnic print cushions.

Hop aboard a little sailboat to explore the untamed coastline of Paros. Later on, stretch out by the villa’s private pool or else head up to the rooftop lounge to watch the sun sink into the endless blue sea. For dinner, take the five minute walk down to local taverna Thalassamou on the pebble beach of Piso Aliki. Join the owner for a quick tour of the kitchen before choosing your own fish, freshly-caught that morning, and matching it with a selection of mezze and a glass of ouzo.

THE SURROUNDINGS

At the southern tip of Paros, Aliki is a picturesque village where the intense blue of the sea is matched only by the dazzling white of the pebbles on the beach. Colourful boats come and go in the little fishing port, as time drifts gently by in the village. Outside the seaside tavernas, freshly-caught squid and mackerel sparkle in the sun, ready to be cooked for dinner. Just across the way, in a little nook sheltered from the wind and away from prying eyes, Villa Heka looks out over the Aegean Sea.
