The promotion of Greece’s investment opportunities was at the center of a series of contacts with Qatari officials from Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Frangoiannis on the sidelines of the 19th Doha Forum.
“We are strengthening our relationship with the Qatari business community, which wants to invest in Greece, and we are taking a step towards the country’s political leadership,” Frangogiannis told Greek reporters on the second day of the Doha forum,
“Positive mood for investing” in our country
Further, describing the atmosphere of his meetings, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that “the partners understand that a new wind is blowing in Greece” and that they are “determined to invest positively” in our country.
It is significant that Mr. Fragoyannis said that they are interested in the fields of tourism, shipping, real estate and energy.
In particular, Mr. Frangoyannis met with the Prime Minister of Qatar, ministers of trade and transport, the deputy minister of foreign affairs, representatives of the Qatar business association and the head of the Qatar Investment Authority, which is the country’s main financial and economic instrument managing funds in the amount of more than 300 billion euros.
Then, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy met with Silatech’s CEO and with individual businessmen interested in investing in Greece. He also visited the high-tech branch of the University of Texas at Doha and met with representatives of the Greek community living in Qatar who either work as business leaders or are in Qatar for academic reasons.
“In a few weeks we will present a national extroversion plan”
During the briefing, Mr. Frangoiannis emphasized the importance of extraversion for Greece and the emphasis that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is betraying this strategy.
“We are ready to present a single bill of the Foreign Ministry. This bill provides for the transformation of the mechanism by which the country’s economic diplomacy is carried out. Enterprise Greece and the Economic and Commercial Affairs (ISD) team are expected to work more closely, ”he said.
At the same time, he outlined the government’s plan for the new role that Enterprise Greece should play, explaining that the goal is to become the main axis of extroversion of Greek business, which will support small and medium enterprises through targeted actions and tools.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister said that within six months Enterprise Greece will create “rapid growth forces” that will represent Greece as an investment destination around the world.
He also emphasized that the consultative group on the architecture of the country’s image: “Permutation of Greece” will complete its work in 3-4 months, presenting “media content”.
“Greece is planning economic growth”
As the main prerequisites for attracting investment, he proposed the existence of a market, political stability, economic growth and social cohesion.
